1) If you are running the program on a floppy disk, then the write protect tab is on (see if the light on your floppy drive comes on). This is a little square on the disk where a slider can block or unblock the hole. To write to the disk, the hole must be closed.
2) If you are running the program on your hard drive but storing the data on a floppy disk then the write protect tab is on (square hole opened). Check your drive/path setting in the setup options of the program. If the "drive/path =" starts with letter a: or b: then the program is setup to write to a floppy.
3) You are working in windows and you have two copies of the program open at the same time. One of the copies has a file open and the other program cannot access it. You should only have one copy open. Close all others.
4) You are working on a network (two or more computers using the same server) and one of the other computers has the program running. While you can run the program on a network. Only one computer can access the program at a time. Only the invoice writer and inventory management programs allow multi-user on a network.
If none of the above apply then it may be a windows operating system fault or a networking fault. Close all programs and shut down the computer. Restart it in the DOS mode and see if you still have the problem. This can be done by pressing the F8 key when the startup says "loading windows __". Select "command prompt". At the dos prompt, type, \menu and press enter. If the program runs ok now then you have a operating system problem or a network problem.
If you still have a problem, reinstall the program. Nothing in the program can cause this error.
